Praise all the staff

I want to praise all the staff at the diabetic unit at the EDGH. They have always been there for me since I moved here 4 years ago. They phone me inbetween my appointments and I think they are a team who should get praise for their dedication

Cancer and X ray
June 24, 2016
Had to come for a breast related problem. Very pleased that referral from GP to appointment was only a week.
Sent for mammogram and seen immediately - excellent!
Then told that it would take 7 days to get my previous mammograms from Brighton. Why? Can't they be transmitted electronically. I would be prepared to drive to Brighton and they could be in Eastbourne on the same day! There must be couriers.
Then it would be another week before they could examine the scans and would get back to me within that time.
Another week goes by - so now it is 3 weeks since I have been seen - a long time when you are thinking that you might have breast cancer.
I phone the DGH to be told that I am not showing on the system to be given a report and my notes/information must still be in X ray and hadn't been sent to them.
I offered to go and get them from X ray and take them to the secretary/typist and was told that it was quite a long way! I must admit that I was being sarcastic, and whilst not an excuse, was stressed and frustrated.
Funnily enough the very next morning I was phoned to say that it was clear, but never received a letter from the department.

Hand Gel
Entrance, cafe, toilets, corridors etc
June 24, 2016
I saw the article in the local paper - and the display by the cafe - about using hand gel and controlling infection.
I was horrified to discover that there is ONLY 1 hand gel machine in the whole of the entrance area, cafe, corridors, toilets, etc and that is almost hidden outside the flower shop by the doors.
I have mentioned this, previously, to the reception staff and hope that they have passed the message on to the relevant people, but as nothing has been done, I can only assume that they haven't.
I fully appreciate that all the ward entrances have hand gel machines, but I just wonder if the bugs/germs only go onto the wards! Do they (the germs) not go into any other areas? Infection is so easily transmitted and there is absolutely no control whatsoever in the public areas. A member of the reception staff told me that she never touched anything without having her own disposable gloves and also brought her own gel.

My 3 year old granddaughter had to attend A & E. Staff were extremely caring towards her and very supportive of an anxious grandmother. She was 'fast tracked' to x ray, where the staff were, again, very reassuring to her (and me) and made the experience a 'fun' activity for her. Upon our return to A & E, we were quickly seen by the Doctor, who showed us the x ray (and showed my granddaughter) and reassured us that she would be OK.
From start to finish was about one and a half hours and the whole experience for our granddaughter was made 'enjoyable' - well as enjoyable as it can be.
Very many thanks to all of the staff.

Best level of care ever.

Was admitted to Pevensy ward, twice and could not fault it. Right from housekeeping to consultant care.
Long wait for stitches
Accident and emergency services

I was knocked out briefly, while my partner phoned 999 for an ambulance. I staunched my wound, cancelled the ambulance and made my own way to hospital. Booked in at 16:08 - left at 21:30. My head was bleeding for 4.5 hours until I was finally seen. I felt dizzy, thirsty, tired - no xray straight away and none afterwards. Triage was terrible, my wound was later found to be more serious. Sprains and minor incidents were seen first while I bled continuously. Shocking service.
