Healthwatch East Sussex present Annual Report and Listening Tour findings to the East Sussex Health and Wellbeing Board

Earlier this week, Healthwatch East Sussex staff attended the East Sussex Health and Wellbeing Board to present our 2024-25 Annual Report ‘Unlocking The Power of People Driven Care’ and the findings from our 2024-25 Listening Tour.

Presenting at the Health and Wellbeing Board gives Healthwatch the opportunity to share what people are telling us about their experiences of health and care with local councillors and key decision makers.

During the presentation of our Annual Report, we highlighted:

  • a summary of our activities, including from the last 12 months, and how we’ve used people’s feedback and experiences to support service development
  • how we supported 3,586 people to share experiences of health, care and wellbeing and provided advice and information to the 566 people via our Information and Signposting service.
  • the ongoing importance of patient and public voice in the design and delivery of services.
  • our collaborative work with Healthwatch in Sussex which has included 12 monthly polls, influencing local decision makers and the achievement of our 2024 Impact Award.
  • the impacts of our projects on;
    • understanding people’s experiences of Discharge 2 Assess beds
    • children and young peoples views on GP Practices in Hastings
    • care homes residents experiences of oral health care

For our presentation for the Listening Tour we shared: 

  • the key findings from our activities in Wealden, Lewes and the Havens, and Hastings and what we heard from the 197 local people we engaged with about their experiences.
  • the differences and common themes in the areas that we visited.
  • our five recommendations, suggesting how improvements could be made in the areas of; primary care access, social isolation, social determinants and equality, transport and health and wellbeing.
  • what our next steps are and how we are using what we heard to support improvements to local health and care services.

What is the East Sussex Health and Wellbeing Board?

The Health and Wellbeing Board is committed to improving health and wellbeing across East Sussex, especially for people, places and communities who currently have the worst health outcomes. It will make sure there is a shared and comprehensive understanding of local health and wellbeing needs, and a clear strategy to meet them.

Members of the board includes representation from all bodies in East Sussex with major responsibilities for commissioning and providing health services, public health and social care, including local councillors, representatives from Adult Social Care, NHS Sussex, Children’s Services, Public Health and Healthwatch East Sussex’ Executive Director.
