Mapping of Patient Participation Groups in East Sussex

What we found
Our mapping identified:
-
Significant variations exist in the quantity, quality and accuracy of information that GP practice websites provide on Patient Participation Groups.
-
Some GP practices provide excellent, clear and comprehensive information related to their Patient Participation Group on their website, but six practices shared no information at all about their PPG.
-
We found examples where information was either very basic or out-of-date, and in some cases no information about PPGs was present at all.
-
Fewer than a third of practice websites provided named contacts for their PPGs along with dedicated or personalised contact details, and this may affect people’s ability to share feedback, raise queries or indicate an interest in joining.
-
Reception and other practice staff having mixed and often limited awareness of the existence and operation of a PPG at their practice.
Our recommendations
Our report includes eight recommendations to support improvements in public and patient facing information about Patient Participation Groups. These include suggestions around more consistent presentation of information, more detail on activity and actions, regular reviews to ensure content is up-to-date, and greater clarity on how people can contact or join PPGs.
Who we share our report with
Our report will be shared with NHS Sussex as the commissioners of primary care services locally, GP practices, Patient Participation Groups, and a range of our statutory and voluntary sector partners across East Sussex.
