Our host organisation, East Sussex Community Voice (ESCV) are recruiting a Senior Engagement Officer; this role will drive forward a strategic and diverse approach to engagement across our diverse activities, including Healthwatch.

Following two inspections in June 2023, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has lowered its rating for Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s child and adolescent mental health (CAMHS) ward at Chalkhill, from ‘Good’ to ‘Requires Improvement’. The overall rating for Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust remains good.

Our 2023 Annual Event ‘Your Voice Counts: Celebrating 10 years of Healthwatch’ was held at The View Hotel, Eastbourne in July 2023.

This report provides a brief summary of the event, with a particular focus on the points raised during the table discussions and participant’s consideration of the theme ‘Your Voice Counts’.

The NHS in Sussex is calling on the public’s support to help ensure emergency care is available for those in most need as consultants and junior doctors strike together. The British Medical Association (BMA) has announced consultants and junior doctors will take part in joint strike action from 7am, Monday, 2 October to 7am, Thursday, 5 October.

Last year Healthwatch East Sussex hosted the Eastbourne Listening Tour between the 15th and the 30th of October 2022. During the tour we gathered the views and experiences of Eastbourne residents to help decision makers improve local health and care services.

The 9th to the 15th October 2023 is Baby Loss Awareness Week, a globally recognised event that provides an opportunity to come together as a community and give anyone touched by pregnancy and baby loss a safe and supportive space to share their experiences and feel that they are not alone.
